What started out being called the 'November
Nipple Twister Roadtrip' changed into the 'Stairway to Heaven
Roadtrip'
as we all thought
we were gonna die on the way home. Heavy snow and Dennis
Wingham behind the wheel, swinging the back out on every
roundabout!
The trip started friday night, 12 of us crammed
into the minibus and headed up to Northampton Travelodge with
Ash driving even though he had a metal splinter in his eye
from a grinding accident that day. Everyone was pretty excited
to be there so we headed out into
town in
search of nightlife. Nick looked too young to get into a nightclub
so we looked elsewhere, settling in a metal/rock pub. Tiredness,
near fights and crap dress codes meant the night didn't last
much past here.
Next day big Nick came over to join us. The
weather looked a bit dodge for Saffron Walden concrete park
so we decided to head to an indoor park in Great Yarmouth.
We now
know why
it
got
it's
name: because
it
takes
sooo long
to get there, it's GREAT when you finally arrive. The park
was smallish but with lots of lines to session. Nick and Steve
tackled the big wall, getting to the top a few times. Ash,
Jo and Luke hit the jump box most of the day. The mini was
pretty good also. Steve and Jake went large with lines over
the double volcanoes and nearly made a stall on the back railing
7ft up!
By this time Ash could hardly see to drive let alone the rain.
We got back pretty late, grabbed food, half
went into town for more night time amusement.
Next
day was Corby. The new vert is looking awesome. Nearly finished
and massive. In it's very own purpose
built building, looks like Woodward or something! The park
was packed and finding a space on the jump line was tricky
but after a while people warmed up. The foam pit was sessioned
quite heavily. Steve looped out after landing a jump and Ash
blew out spokes by riding into Joe. Funniest part was when
some kid got T boned and came out with a front wheel looking
like a taco!
We left around 7, stuffing everything into
the minibus for the last time. Dennmis was behind the wheel
and it was snowing. It got heavier on the way home to the extent
that it covered the roadsigns. A fair few 540's were done on
roundabouts! Conditions went from bad to worse and the whole
van appeared to be crapping it fearing we may never get home.
We decided to do the most logical thing in such circumstances:
stop to buy beer.
Luckily the snow cleared up and after an
extra curricular activity stop we got back to Ash's about 1am.
A good weekend was had by all, roll on Scotland in May 08!
